Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia (GPN) - Online Support Group

We are patients living with glossopharyngeal neuralgia, here for your support.

I read someone on here was on trileptal and zinc with a successful outcome and now I cannot find the post with the doses. I have a new pain dr. and we have not had much luck with anything so far and I have tried most of what he has recommended (lyrica; nuerontin; hydrocodone; etc.) but not this combo. Could someone respond to this please? I am having a hard time just leaving the house because of the pain. Thank you.

Monica,
I had a very successful combo of 400 mg tegretal and 600 mg trileptal (split doses) but my sodium levels got too low which was why I had surgery 13 months after diagnosis.I had a dagger stabbing me in the side of the throat with each swallow (even saliva)and was unable to talk. I had no remissions in that time but the combo of those 2 meds controlled the pain in increasing doses. I never tried zinc though took vitamin with minerals and still do.
